Mussel Rock Park
On a hillside in south Daly City is where you’ll find Mussel Rock Park, and on that hillside you’ll find a number of pathways that connect to launch places for paragliding.
The coastline immediately below the park is rocky, with only a small amount of exposed sand. On the other hand, there is a sandy beach located near the northernmost part of the park. The parking lot may be found at the very end of Westline Drive, not too far from Highway 1, and close to the boundary between Pacifica and Daly City. You will have to walk north on the trail that is above the rocks until it comes to an end and then search for a way to get down to the beach in order to find sand. Although there are signs that state “Do Not Enter – Eroding Cliff,” a significant number of people nonetheless climb down the small and steep ledge. Thornton State Beach, which does not have an official public beach access, can be reached by walking north on the beach, and Fort Funston Beach can be reached after that. About two kilometers separate you from the closest trailhead exit. When the tide is low, this is an excellent location for beachcombing.
