The Cow Palace, which was once known as the California State Livestock Pavilion, is an indoor arena that can be found in Daly City, California. It is located on the city’s northern boundary with San Francisco, which is to the city’s immediate north. Due to the fact that the property’s border runs across it, there is a piece of the upper parking lot that is located in San Francisco.
After it was finished in 1941, it served as the home court for the San Francisco Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1962 to 1964 and then from 1966 to 1971. As a result of the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena being reserved for a performance of Ice Follies, the Warriors were forced to temporarily relocate their home court for the 1975 NBA Finals to the Cow Palace. It played host to both the Republican National Convention in 1956 and the Republican National Convention in 1964 at the same location. The Cow Palace served as host venue for the annual SF Examiner Games during the decades of the 1960s and 1970s. These games were an indoor track and field competition of world-class caliber. Up until the early 1980s, the Cow Palace was an important venue for professional boxing. It held regular concerts, which included 10 world title fights and visits by all-time greats such as Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Alexis Arguello. The Cow Palace closed its doors in the early 1980s. In addition to this, it has served as a venue for professional wrestling and the Bay Bombers of roller derby. Beginning in 1959 and continuing until 1973, when the organization was dissolved, the world championship playoffs for roller derby were held in the Cow Palace every fall. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus came to the Cow Palace for the first time in 1956, the same year that the circus moved away from using Big Tops (circus tents) and instead performed in permanent arenas. Both the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and what is now known as Disney on Ice performed at the Cow Palace between the years 1966 and 1999. Both of these events were later moved to the Oracle Arena, which is where Disney on Ice continues to perform even after the Ringling Bros. organization went out of business.
When it comes to ice hockey, the arena has 11,089 seats, while for basketball it has 12,953 seats. When the Warriors played there, the venue had a capacity of slightly more than 15,000 for basketball. Since 1941, it has also served as the location of the annual Grand National Rodeo, Horse & Stock Show (except for a break from 1942 to 1945 due to World War II). The facility was chosen to host the men’s Final Four of the NCAA Basketball Tournament in 1960 as well as the NBA All-Star Game in 1967. Since the early 1980s, both Sesame Street Live and Champions on Ice have been presented at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. In recent years, the Cow Palace has served as the venue for performances of Cirque du Soleil in the Bay Area. Browse around this site
