It’s important to choose a plumber that knows Commercial Water Heaters and has been trained by the water heater manufacturer. Almost all commercial water heaters are rated by the “FHR” meaning the first hour rating. The FHR is the amount of hot water the water heater can produce in the first hour of usage. The FHR is primarily determined by the number of BTUs and the size (ie. gallon capacity) of the commercial water heater.

Commercial water heaters are used in a variety of different ways and choosing the right unit really depends on the desired space and application. We usually recommend that if a commercial water heater replacement is required, it’s usually the best option to replace it with a similar model – unless you’ve had issues with water heating in the past. But the most critical factor is making sure the commercial water heater has a similar FHR (first hour rating), gallon capacity, and BTU rating. The easiest way to determine the BTU and gallon capacity on your Commercial Water Heater is to look at the “rating plate” sticker on the water heater (ie. manufacturing sticker.
